Back when I was in school, we were taught to express ourselves differently on paper than when speaking.  Teachers stressed that we should follow all the rules of grammar, and even journalists were instructed to follow the five W’s – who, what, when, where and why, in their writing.  That was the proper way to expose others to your ideas, to tell your story, to communicate in writing.  Well, that was then, and this is now.
